The Johnny Jigs® Flat Back Slow Pitch Jig is one of the most proven and versatile jigs in our lineup. Built with a center-weighted design and flat back profile, this jig delivers a highly productive darting flutter action when worked with proper slow pitch technique, closely imitating an injured baitfish struggling through the water column.
One of the key advantages of the Flat Back jig is its moderately fast drop speed, allowing anglers to reach bottom efficiently even in moderate current conditions. Once pitched, the flat back surface causes the jig to dart and flutter unpredictably, triggering reaction strikes from nearby predators.
This combination of controlled sink rate and erratic flutter makes the Flat Back an excellent choice when targeting bottom-dwelling species like grouper, snapper, and other reef predators. However, its darting action often attracts bites throughout the water column as well—so don’t be surprised when it gets crushed by amberjack, tuna, or other aggressive pelagic species during the retrieve.
Available in both Micro sizes (60g and 90g) and traditional slow pitch weights up to 300g, the Flat Back jig remains one of the most effective all-around slow pitch jigs for a wide range of depths, species, and conditions.
