What to Look for in a Slow Pitch Jigging Rod
While spinning reels can be used, most slow pitch jigging rods are designed for conventional reels. These rods are lightweight and sensitive, with a medium-slow action that smoothly lifts the jig and allows it to pitch—creating a dynamic range of action on the drop, or “pitch,” which gives this technique its name.
In addition to being light, many slow pitch rods feature a split grip design, enhancing sensitivity, and often have a short foregrip (or none at all). The main purpose of a slow pitch jigging rod is to impart the proper action to the jig, rather than powering the fish back to the boat.
